Free Theme #7 The Bradford Pear

I liked this picture, it didn't seem to fit any of themes. I have some other ideas for spring that I hope will come to fruition soon. I've always seen these trees flower at spring time and decided to do some research on them. They could be called angels or devils...one of the websites I pulled up described the flowering bradford pear tree a devil and just don't plant it. The reasons being: the foul odor (yes I agree), it's life span (30 yrs), and it's inability to resist winds. I did notice a lot of broken trees. It also puts out suckers underneath that will tear up a lawn mower. Oh what a price to pay for springtime beauty.

  1. You taught me something new about Bradford pear trees, I never knew this! All I know is what I can see, they are one stunning tree! Wish the blooms lasted longer! Great image!

  3. Bradford Pears are in bloom here and make it look like it snowed just on those trees! They are not very sturdy. Ice and wind do a lot of damage. The next street over is lined with them, but many of them have died or are missing a lot of branches. We had a bad ice storm in 2002 and that did a lot of them in. Before that there were 2 hurricanes, Fran and Floyd and I guess they did in millions of trees. We weren't here then.

  4. The use of white on white is unusual but very effective.

  7. Such beautiful flowers, great shot. Don't they also have messy inedible fruit?

  8. I like the white on white and the way the blossoms seem to spiral up to the sky. Nice shot.
